DermaMed Coatings and EuroMed Partner to Develop Low-Trauma Skin Adhesive Technology

HydroSoft product is designed for wound and surgical dressings and other healthcare applications.

Medical device companies DermaMed Coatings Company LLC and EuroMed Inc. have partnered to develop a proprietary hydro-colloid fixation technology for medical applications.

Co-branded under the name HydroSoft, the low-trauma adhesive is, according to the companies, “cost-effective” and “ideal for fragile skin.” It uses a non-silicone-based adhesive and can be easily repositioned as needed without damaging the skin.

The HydroSoft patent-pending technology and process can be sourced in roll form or customized as pressure-sensitive adhesives. As a low-trauma adhesive, HydroSoft is designed for optimal use in wound dressings, neonatal and geriatric care, surgical dressings, biosensors, catheters, diagnostics, and electrodes.

Hydro-colloid technology supports faster wound healing, maintains skin moisture, allows for longer wear times, tolerates sweat, adds comfort, and is gentler on the skin, company officials noted. HydroSoft uses latex-free, non-silicone materials to deliver a hydro-colloid that performs like silicone gels, and it can be gamma sterilized.

Orangeburg, N.Y.-based EuroMed brought its patented adhesive technologies to the product’s development, while Tallmadge, Ohio-based DermaMed added its coating capabilities.

DermaMed makes skin-contact adhesives for medical, advanced wound care, medical devices, and consumer healthcare applications. EuroMed is a privately held medical device manufacturer specializing in advanced hydrocolloid wound care technology that it makes for private-label partners.
